BCCI extended Ajit Agarakar's contract

Actually, according to the Indian Express report, the BCCI decided to retain Ajit Agarkar a few months ago. The BCCI was very happy with the achievements in Indian cricket after his arrival.

Ajit Agarkar was entrusted with this big responsibility in June 2023, after which he brought many successes to India. Ended the drought of victory in ICC events. India won the T20 World Cup 2024 title in 2024 and won the Champions Trophy in early 2025. India also made it to the final of the ODI World Cup in 2023.

Agarkar's tenure has also been defined by strategic leadership changes. Under him, the selectors handed over the Test captaincy to Shubman Gill and gave the command of the T20 team to Suryakumar Yadav. The team also had to go through the retirement of veterans like Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma and Ravichandran Ashwin. Kohli and Rohit are now playing only in ODIs and Ashwin has retired from all formats.

Job of a selector of Ajit Agarkar's committee in danger

The current selection committee includes Ajit Agarkar along with SS Das, Subroto Banerjee, Ajay Ratra and S Sharath. However, there is a possibility of a change in the panel in the BCCI's Annual General Meeting to be held in September.

Sharath, who took over as the junior selection committee chairman in January 2023, is expected to be removed as he approaches four years in the selection role, which is the maximum period allowed under BCCI norms.

According to reports, the board is set to start a fresh application process without taking a final decision on the future of Das and Banerjee. However, officials say they are generally satisfied with the current panel and the change may be limited to one position.
