The Sports Ministry wants the BCCI to conduct its elections in September under the National Sports Administration Act, but if the notification of the rules of the new Act is not issued by then, then the elections can also be conducted as per the recommendations of the Lodha Committee accepted by the Supreme Court.
A source in the Sports Ministry said that although the elections should be conducted as per the Act, but if the notification of its rules is not issued by then, then they can also be conducted as per the recommendations of the Lodha Committee.
All national federations will have to follow the rules
The source said that once the notification of the rules is issued, all national federations including the BCCI will have to conduct elections as per it. As per the recommendations of the Lodha Committee, the age limit of the officials should be within 70 years, but in the new Act, candidates between 70 and 75 years can also contest the elections.
Interim President not appointed
If the rules of the international federation allow it. There is no age limit for officials in the ICC rules. BCCI President Roger Binny's term ended with his turning 70, but the board has not yet announced an interim president.
Anurag Thakur barred from contesting elections
The Indian Boxing Federation held its elections amid an ongoing legal battle over a constitutional amendment. Under this amendment, BJP MP and former Sports Minister Anurag Thakur was barred from contesting the election for the post of president. The Sports Ministry and the Indian Olympic Association did not send their observers to the elections.
