Smriti Mandhana could achieve a feat in the World Cup that has not yet been achieved in women's cricket.

India's Smriti Mandhana is close to setting a world record never before seen in women's cricket. She is just 197 runs away from reaching 1,000 ODI runs in a calendar year. No other player has ever achieved this feat in women's cricket.

Smriti Mandhana is in tremendous form. Her bat is blazing a trail in the three-match series against Australia ahead of the ODI World Cup. The third and decisive match of the series is on Saturday. In the second match, she reached a century in just 77 balls, the fastest century ever scored against Australia. With her current form, Smriti Mandhana could set a batting record never seen before in women's cricket during the ODI World Cup, starting later this month: 1,000 ODI runs in a calendar year.

Smriti Mandhana scored 117 runs off 91 balls in the second ODI against Australia. This was her 12th ODI century. She also hit six sixes during the innings. She reached 800 runs in ODIs in 2025, becoming the seventh player in women's cricket to achieve this feat. This year, she has scored 803 runs in ODIs at an average of 61.76, with three centuries and three half-centuries. She now needs just 197 runs to reach 1,000 runs in a calendar year.

With Smriti Mandhana's current form, she could easily create history by scoring 1,000 ODI runs in a calendar year. There's only one match left in the series against Australia, which is Saturday. The ODI World Cup begins on September 30th. India will play at least seven matches in the league stage. If the Indian team reaches the final, it will have two more matches. Hence, there is every hope that during the World Cup, she can create the record of completing 1000 ODI runs in a calendar year.
