The Australian women's cricket team was fined 10 percent of their match fee on Friday for a slow over-rate in the second ODI against India in Mullanpur (Chandigarh).

Australia suffered a 102-run defeat in the second ODI on Wednesday, their biggest defeat by runs.

Australia bowled two overs short of the stipulated time, for which International Cricket Council (ICC) match referee GS Lakshmi imposed the fine.

"In accordance with Article 2.22 of the ICC Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel, relating to slow over-rates, players are fined five percent of their match fee for each over they bowl. Australia has accepted the penalty and therefore, a formal hearing was not required.

The allegation was made by on-field umpires Vrinda Rathi and Janani Narayanan, third umpire Lauren Agenbag, and fourth umpire Gayatri Venugopalan.

The third and decisive match of the three-match ODI series between the Indian and Australian women's teams will be played on Saturday.

In the second match of the series on Wednesday, vice-captain Smriti Mandhana scored the second-fastest ODI century by an Indian woman batsman. The Indian team defeated Australia by 102 runs to level the three-match series 1-1.

Sent into bat first, left-handed batsman Mandhana scored 117 runs in 91 balls, including 14 fours and four sixes. She reached her century in just 77 balls, helping the hosts reach their highest total of 292.

Subsequently, despite several dropped catches, the hosts recorded a comprehensive victory by dismissing Australia for 190 runs in 40.5 overs.

This marked the first time in history that the world-dominating Australian team lost an ODI match by 100 or more runs.

Earlier, Mandhana reached her century in 77 balls. She also holds the record for the fastest century by an Indian female batsman. She had reached her century in 70 balls against Ireland in Rajkot in January this year.
