Sports Desk, New Delhi. Cricket South Africa has released the roadmap for the 2027 ICC Men's Cricket World Cup. It has been confirmed that 44 matches will be played in 8 cities of South Africa, while 10 matches will be held in Zimbabwe and Namibia.
The announcement came with the formation of the tournament's Local Organizing Committee Board (LOCB), which will be led by former South African cabinet minister Trevor Manuel as independent chairman.
Matches will be played in 8 cities
The 8 cities in South Africa where matches will be played include Johannesburg, Pretoria, Cape Town, Durban, Gqeberha, Bloemfontein, East London and Paarl. Zimbabwe and Namibia, co-hosts of the event, will also play a central role in it, making the tournament even more widespread across the Southern Africa region.
World Cup will be played after 24 years
CSA President Rihan Richards said, the return of the World Cup to the African continent after more than two decades has special significance. It has been 24 years since the last ICC World Cup tournament was held on African soil. In such a situation, the 2027 World Cup is a great opportunity to create a unique platform to attract new fans and connect with the world.
Great opportunity to connect the world
CSA reiterated that the 2027 World Cup is not only about cricket excellence but also about expanding the reach of the game. By organizing matches in Zimbabwe and Namibia and at traditional and non-traditional South African venues, CSA hopes to showcase both the depth of cricket and the cultural richness of the continent.
