Team India has geared up for Asia Cup 2025. It will start its campaign against United Arab Emirates (UAE) on 10 September. During this, two legendary players of Team India can be seen opening the innings. Earlier, these two players used to fight among themselves for the bat, but now they are desperate to give a good start to the team. Of these two players playing together since childhood, one is calm and the other is naughty. This has been revealed by Shubman Gill and Abhishek Sharma's coach Arun Bedi during an interview.
Coach made a big revelation

Former Punjab cricketer Arun Bedi has seen Shubman Gill and Abhishek Sharma since their Under-14 days, when both these players used to play for Punjab. During an interview, he told that one of them is calm and the other is naughty. Shubman Gill and Abhishek Sharma can be seen opening in the Asia Cup. On this Arun Bedi said that this will not be the first time. These two players have been opening together since their Under-14 days.
He told that earlier, there used to be Dhruv Pandav Trophy for Under-14 players. Only the teams of North Zone Delhi, Haryana, Punjab, Jammu and Kashmir and Himachal used to play in it. Both of them played for Punjab in this tournament for the first time under my coaching. Abhishek Sharma was the captain and Shubman Gill was the vice-captain. All our matches were in Una, Himachal Pradesh. Abhishek was the Player of the Series and Punjab won this tournament by defeating Delhi. Bedi shared an anecdote from this tournament that how these two players won a lost match?
When a lost match was turned into a win
Bedi told that the league match against Himachal Pradesh was of two days. On the second day of the match, Himachal Pradesh had taken a lead of 10 runs with 5 wickets remaining till tea. During tea, I told Shubman and Abhishek, "We are going to lose". After some time, both of them came to me and said, "Sir, how will we lose?" Bedi told that after this, when the game started, Abhishek took a wicket in the first over itself. During this, Abhishek bowled brilliantly and Gill did brilliant fielding and soon Himachal was bowled out.
After this, Punjab got a target of 90 runs in 10 overs to win. Which both of them achieved in 7 overs only. Arun Bedi said, "I was surprised. At such a young age, they were thinking like this". After the match, Bedi called Shubman and Abhishek's father Lakhwinder Gill and Rajkumar Sharma and told them that their sons are special and will play for India one day. However, both these players used to fight among themselves for the bat in childhood. This was revealed by Abhishek and Gill during an interview.
There used to be fights for the bat in childhood
Abhishek Sharma's passion for Shubhman Gill's bat is well known. Abhishek scored his first T20I century with Shubhman's bat in Zimbabwe in 2024. Abhishek had said, "Whenever I need runs, I ask for his bat". Meanwhile, Shubhman Gill had revealed in one of his interviews how they once had a fight over this issue.

He told, "Actually, it started in our Under-16 days. Abhishek started playing with my bat. He was batting on 80 or 90 runs with my match bat and I didn't want my bat to break, so I asked him to return the bat. We had a little fight over this! But whenever he asked for my bat, I always gave it to him and he scored a lot of runs with it".
Shubman and Abhishek used to eat pizza before the match
Arun Bedi told that Abhishek was crazy about Shubman's bat and the current Test captain of India used to take credit for all the runs scored by him. Shubman used to tell me that sir, all the runs should be counted in my name. Runs do not come from his own bat. Bedi told that both were roommates since Under-14 days and they had a ritual before the match. They used to eat pizza before the match.
Shubman Gill told during an interview, "From the days of Under-16 and even in the days of Under-19, we used to eat pizza before every match. It was a superstition. We kept doing this for years. Eat pizza, score runs. This used to be our mantra". Bedi told that in batting they are like ice and fire. They understand each other's game very well and I am not surprised to see them at this stage.
