Regular captain Nigar Sultana Joti will lead the team, Nahida Akhtar has been given the responsibility of vice-captaincy. 17-year-old Nishita Akhtar has also got a place in this squad, who has experience of only 2 matches in international cricket so far. Apart from Nishita, all eyes will also be on 19-year-old Sumaiya Akhtar, who will return to the team after March 2024.
Rubaya Haider has not even made her ODI cricket debut yet and has scored only 58 runs in 6 T20 matches. Despite this, the selectors have shown confidence in her for the ODI World Cup. Chief selector Sajjad Ahmed Mansoor said that Rubaya has been selected on the basis of her performance in the last 6 months.
17-year-old Nishita Akhtar will be the youngest player in the team. Her specialty is that she keeps her composure even under pressure and is especially adept at trapping left-handed batsmen in her spin. The Bangladesh team has never reached the final of the Women's ODI World Cup.
Bangladesh will start its World Cup campaign with a match against Pakistan on October 2. After that it will face England on October 7. It will face New Zealand on October 10 and then South Africa on October 13. Bangladesh will then play against Australia on October 16 and then Sri Lanka on October 20. Bangladesh's last league match will be against India on October 26.
