Sports Desk, New Delhi. Bangladesh has announced its squad for the upcoming 2025 ICC Women's Cricket World Cup to be held in India and Sri Lanka. Nigar Sultana Jyoti will lead the 15-member team which will represent Bangladesh for the second time in this prestigious tournament.
Nigar Sultana Jyoti led Bangladesh in the Women's Cricket World Cup for the first time in 2022. Since then she has been leading the team. Meanwhile, wicketkeeper-batsman Rubia Haider, who has played 6 T20 matches for Bangladesh, has been included in the ODI squad for the first time for this prestigious tournament.
Young players also got a place
Other notable names in the team include Nishita Akhtar and Sumaya Akhtar. Both played for Bangladesh in the Under-19 Women's T20 World Cup earlier this year. Sumaya, who captained the team in the tournament held in Malaysia, made her ODI debut against Australia in March last year.
Nishita has played two ODIs
The youngest member of the Bangladesh team, Nishita has two ODI matches to her name. She made her debut against Pakistan in 2023. Bangladesh will begin their ICC Women's World Cup 2025 campaign against Pakistan in Colombo on October 2.
The team led by Nigar Sultana Jyoti will also play in Cricket World Cup practice matches against South Africa and Sri Lanka on September 25 and 27 respectively.
