Afghanistan all-rounder Azmatullah Umarzai wreaked havoc with the bat in the T20 Asia Cup 2025 on Tuesday. He played a stormy half-century innings against Hong Kong in the first match of the tournament. He scored 53 runs in 21 balls at the Sheikh Zayed Stadium in Abu Dhabi, including two fours and five sixes. This is the first fifty of the 25-year-old player's T20 International career. He completed his fifty in just 20 balls. Umarzai has created a big history. He has become the fastest player to score a fifty in T20 International cricket for Afghanistan.

Umarzai has broken the record of Afghanistan's all-rounders Mohammad Nabi and Gulbadin Naib. Both of them achieved the feat of scoring half-centuries in 21 balls each. Nabi did this against Ireland in 2017. At the same time, Naib equaled Nabi by scoring a fifty in 21 balls against India in 2024. Umarzai has done wonders of scoring the second fastest half-century in Asia Cup history. On the basis of his innings, Afghanistan scored a huge score of 188/6 against Hong Kong. He came out to bat at number six. Umarzai shared an 82-run partnership for the fifth wicket with opener Sediqullah Atal (73 not out off 52 balls).

Umarzai took a very aggressive stance in the 19th over bowled by Hong Kong bowler Ayush Shukla. He hit consecutive sixes on the first three balls of the over. He hit a four on the fourth ball and completed his half-century. He was trying to play a powerful shot on the fifth ball as well but was caught by Ejaz Khan. His strike rate was 252.38.
