Many star players from around the world, including top South African players, will take part in the players' auction for the fourth season of the SA20 Cricket League, which will be held in Johannesburg on September 9. More than 500 players will take part in the auction and during this time six franchises will finalize their team of 19-19 players before the fourth season starting on 26 December 2025.
More than 800 players had registered for the auction, which is the highest ever registration in the history of the competition. After the franchise review, the list was reduced to 541 players, which includes 300 South African and 241 foreign players. Surprisingly, no Pakistani player is included in it. Apart from this, Indian players are also not a part of it. Those Indians who have retired from IPL and international cricket can play in it, but no one has registered.
South Africa's T20 captain Aiden Markram is leading the South African players, while seven members of the ICC T20 World Cup final team, Enrique Norkia, Quinton de Kock, Reeza Hendricks, Keshav Maharaj, Tabrez Shamsi, Otniel Bartman and Gerald Coetzee are also part of the auction. ICC World Test Championship winning South African team members Kyle Verreynne, David Bedingham, Vian Mulder, Lungi Ngidi, Tony De Georgi and Dan Patterson are also included in this list.
International cricket legends Bangladesh's Shakib Al Hasan and James Anderson are also among the players participating in the auction. Apart from this, Mustafizur Rahman, Alex Hales and Moeen Ali will also be part of the auction. All eyes will also be on SA 20s finalist Tom Abell and former championship winners Adam Rossington, Jordan Cox and Daniel Worrall.
The fourth season of the player auction will feature a brand new section with two Under-23 players up for selection. This will include South African players who are 23 years of age on the day the competition starts. Emerging stars Dewald Brevis, Kwena Mphaka and Andile Simelane are eligible for selection in the Under-23 category. A total of over $7 million will be available to fill the 84 available spots. Up to 25 of these can be overseas players. All teams must have 19 players, including a minimum of nine South Africans, a maximum of seven international players, two Under-23 South African players and one wildcard player.
